The reading room is located within the Special Research Collections on the fifth floor of Bizzell Memorial Library and is for using special research collection materials. 

Please list the materials you need in priority order. For manuscript collections, please provide the collection name and box number for any material you need for your appointment. For photograph collections, please provide the collection name, box number, and item number. For books, please include the library catalog links. If you need assistance, please contact us at specialresearchcollections@ou.edu.

The reading room is reserved for researchers using the Special Research Collections materials. Anyone is welcomed as a researcher using our materials, but general studying is relegated to the many other study areas within the library.

Available Technology:

One overhead scanner is available for use within the reading room for special research collections materials. Please contact staff if you are interested in using it during your appointment.

Policies:

• No food or drinks are allowed in the reading room at any time.
• Bookbags, tote bags, briefcases, jackets, and other personal belongings must be kept in the designated lockers.
• Researchers may use pencils and personal electronic devices, including laptops, tablets, and cell phones, for notetaking while working with collection materials.
• Pencils and other ink-based items (highlighters) are not permitted. Adhesive notes are not permitted. Acid-free paper is available for researchers needing to bookmark items.
• All collection materials, including books, must remain in the Special Research Collections reading room.
• Researchers are responsible for appropriately handling materials they are using until the materials are returned to a staff member.
• Activities that are disruptive to others, such as talking loudly or excessive cellphone noise, such as notification alerts, are prohibited.
