Python (Software Carpentry On-line Parts 1&2 )

Python is a popular programing language for scientific computing, and great for general-purpose programming as well. This is a beginner-level workshop for researchers presented by OU Libraries. Our workshops cover better practices for research, data, coding, and communication. No prior experience is needed (i.e. no prerequisites).

Topics covered:

  • Variables
  • Data Types and Type Conversion
  • Built-in Functions and Help
  • Libraries/Packages
  • Reading Tabular Data (spreadsheets and Pandas)
  • Plotting and Visualization
  • Lists
  • For Loops
  • Conditionals (true/false)

Lesson: Plotting and Programming in Python

This workshop will be offered on-line. This workshop is typically offered once per semester and can also be scheduled on request . The curriculum is freely available online at: http://swcarpentry.github.io/python-novice-gapminder. We have 1-2 mini breaks with one major break mid morning.
