Survival Skills: Managing Research Files
Managing Research Files will help you start your project off right by considering how you will manage your data, filenaming, folder structures, readmes, and how your datasets relate to each other.
By the end of Managing Research Data, you should be able to:
- understand file naming best practices
- understand file/directory organization best practices
- be able to write a readme file with necessary elements
- understand different formats for organizing data: spreadsheets, flat files, databases
Survival Skills is a beginner-level workshop collection for researchers presented by OU Libraries. These workshops cover basic data and computing skills needed in all research fields. No prior experience needed.
Registration is required.
The curriculum for this event can be found here: https://osf.io/ukq6b/
This workshop will be offered as in person format. This workshop is typically offered once per semester and can also be scheduled on request. Next semester, we will offer it as the opposite format (Zoom). Automatic captioning will be provided via WebCaptioner.com. We have no scheduled breaks during this one-hour workshop. Gendered and family restrooms are available on the same floor. Food and drinks are not provided but Bizzell Memorial Library has a coffee shop on LL1 (hours may vary) and vending machines on LL1, in the hall east of the community room. Water fountains are available on all floors. For additional accommodations on the basis of disability, please contact the workshop instructor or libpr@ou.edu.
