Survival Skills: Managing Research Files

Managing Research Files will help you improve the organization of your research, scholarly, and class documents to make finding and sharing your work easier.

By the end of this workshop, you should understand the better practices for:

  • file naming
  • file and directory organization
  • keeping track of information about your files and project (metadata)

This workshop is for complete beginners and does not require a computer; we will go over concepts in group discussions.

This workshop will be offered in a hybrid format, both in person and on Zoom. This workshop is typically offered once per semester and can also be scheduled on request.  Automatic captioning [will be provided via Zoom. The curriculum is freely available online at: https://osf.io/ukq6b/ . We have no scheduled breaks during this one-hour workshop. Gendered/family restrooms are available on the same floor. Food and drinks are not provided but Bizzell Memorial Library has a coffee shop on LL1 (hours may vary) and vending machines on LL1, in the hall east of LL118 (the community room).  Water fountains are available on all floors.
