Visualizing Data with Tableau

Visualizing Data with Tableau

Tableau is a powerful and popular drag-and-drop data visualization tool that allows users to create interactive visualizations without any programming. Tableau Public is available for free as long as you are willing to share your work online. This hands-on workshop for beginners will cover the basics using a sample set of data.

By the end of the Tableau workshop you should be able to:

  • Load data into Tableau
  • Create a map
  • Create a bar chart
  • Create an interactive dashboard
  • Share your visualization on the web

A map of lower level one can be found here. The workshop will be help in number 3, the Conference Room.

If you will not be able to bring your own computer, please let us know in the registration so we can have one available for you. Otherwise, please follow the setup instructions below.

Setup

  • Download the data (Iowa_Arts_Council_Grants.csv) here.
  • Make sure you have Tableau Public installed on your computer.
  • If you do not already have a Tableau account, please create one.
