African American Newspapers and Primary Sources

African American primary sources provide an important and unique perspective on American history. Newspapers, oral histories, and other primary sources are invaluable resources when researching events and individuals. In this workshop, you will learn how to find and use African American primary sources to supplement your research projects. The following topics will be explored: 

  • Using primary sources for research 
  • A selection of African American primary sources including newspapers, oral histories, books, magazines, and government documents
  • Oklahoma African American primary sources 
  • Primary sources available through OU Libraries and public collections online 
     

Workshop is hosted via Zoom. Registration is required. This event is free and open to everyone. Presenters: Kristal Sergent, Social Sciences Librarian and Laurie Scrivener, History & Area Studies Librarian.
